Smooth Sailing with Accuride Slides

It’s the middle of summer, a gentle breeze takes the edge off the heat of the midday sun. You’re sat outside your favourite café with a magazine, ice clinking against the sides of your glass as you lift it towards you for a sip. You flick idly through the pages of your magazine, not really reading it but taking in what seem to be the most important snippets of information, and wonder what could possibly make your day better. The page turns, and you see the latest pictures of a celebrity sunbathing on a yacht in the Bahamas.

Boat ownership and sailing has been increasing in popularity in the last few years. In 2017, there were an estimated 12 million registered boats in the US, with retail sales of new boats, marine engines and marine accessories totalling roughly $20.1 billion. In the UK, 2017 saw a total of 1,185,243 boats owned by the country’s households, with 60,798 of those registered as sailing yachts.

In Hungary, AQWIA have combined their passions of sailing and conserving the environment to create electric sailing yachts. Their products are worldwide market leaders and embody all of the qualities of a luxury yacht – comfortable, quiet and straightforward to handle – but most importantly they offer the same lifestyle that people associate with boating in a 100% environmentally sound way.

AQWIA workshop

In the development of their boats, AQWIA were searching for a slide to use for their yacht entry doors. Due to the latch used on these doors, a precise closing position needed to be reached, and so AQWIA worked with distributor Biotek to find the perfect solution.

With over 20 years of experience, Biotek have obtained MSZ EN ISO 9001:2009 and MSZ EN ISO 14001:2005 in accordance with the requirements of international standards. With an awareness of their environmental and social impact, Biotek make a great partner for AQWIA, and the two companies have worked together from an early stage on many fastening and mechanical elements.

AQWIA tested several different slides from Accuride. Of all the slides tested, the DA0115RC turned out to be the perfect slide for this application, a linear motion track with a recirculating ball carriage and a load rating of up to 130kg. Resistant to dirt, dust and corrosion, the DA0115RC was such a well-suited solution for the entry door on the yachts that it is now a standardised element of each boat that is built.
